What is the weather like in Las
Vegas?
The weather in Las Vegas can be described
as follows:
The four seasons are actually well
defined in Las Vegas, although they differ from the traditional view of seasonal
variation. Summers display classic desert southwest characteristics. Daily
high temperatures typically exceed 100 degrees with lows in the 70s. The
summer heat is tempered somewhat by the extremely low relative humidities.
However, it is not uncommon for humidity to increase markedly for several
weeks each summer in association with a moist "monsoonal flow" from the south,
typically during July and August. Aside from increasing the discomfort level,
these moist winds also support the development of spectacular desert
thunderstorms.
Winters on the whole, are mild and
pleasant. Afternoon temperatures average near 60 degrees and skies are mostly
clear. Pacific storms occasionally produce rainfall in Las Vegas, but in
general, the Sierra Nevada Mountains of eastern California and the Spring
Mountains immediately west of the Las Vegas Valley act as effective barriers
to moisture.
Snow accumulation is rare in Las
Vegas. Flurries are observed once or twice during most winters, but snowfall
of an inch or more occurs only once every four to five years. However, freezing
temperatures do occur with some regularity. Based on the 1961-90 period of
record, the average first occurrence of 32 degrees in the fall is November
25; the average last occurrence is February 28.
The spring and fall seasons are generally
considered ideal. Although rather sharp temperature changes can occur during
these months, outdoor activities are seldom hampered. Strong winds are arguably
the most persistent and provoking weather hazard experienced in the area.
Winds over 50 mph are infrequent but can occur with some of the more vigorous
storms. Winter and spring wind events often generate widespread areas of
blowing dust and sand. Strong wind episodes in the summertime are usually
connected with thunderstorms, and are thus more isolated and localized.
Prevailing wind direction is typically either southwest or north, unless
associated with a thunderstorm outflow.
Average temperatures
are:
January - Max: 57 deg F - Min: 34 deg F
February - Max: 63 deg F - Min: 39 deg
F
March - Max: 69 deg F - Min: 44 deg F
April - Max: 77 deg F - Min: 51 deg F

In the summer if you are dressed
in a tux or a long, heavy gown, it can get quite uncomfortable. The hot sun
can melt everything from makeup to cake icing. At this time of the year,
think of having an evening ceremony.
Holiday Weddings - To do or Not to
do
The most popular dates for a Las
Vegas wedding are Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. If you are thinking
of getting married on one of these days, you may want to think twice. Although
it may seem romantic to get married at these times, you may find that waiting
in line for a wedding chapel may take up to five hours. On New Year's Eve,
with the influx of tourists, your out-of-town wedding guests may have trouble
finding flights, hotel rooms, etc. Also, bear in mind that reception sites
will also be booked solid during these holidays. Booking up to a year in
advance is a smart move. The Clark County Marriage License Bureau is open
24 hours on holidays to accommodate the load, but you should expect long
lines. To verify hours, call ahead of time.

Who Will Perform the
Wedding?
Most wedding chapels in Vegas offer
either a religious or civil ceremony and can provide you with a minister
or rabbi upon request. Most chapels do not allow you to bring in your own
minister or civil official to perform the wedding.
What if I do not have
Witnesses?
Las Vegas wedding chapels always
have someone available to serve as a witness for your joyous union. This
comes in very handy especially for couples who decide to get married on the
spur of the moment, or who do not have guests in town.
The Language of the
Ceremony:
Many wedding chapels in Las Vegas
can perform ceremonies in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese as well
as other languages. So, you don't have to be an English speaker to partake.
Check the many wedding chapels listed on our main wedding page to find one
that meets your needs.
How long will it take?
Don't expect a long ceremony. In
most cases, you will be allowed only one-half hour of chapel time. That's
because, there are always several weddings scheduled in each wedding chapel
every day. However, by paying more, you can book some chapels for longer
times.
Where can I get a Wedding
Gown?

spur-of-the-moment weddings, thus there are places where you can rent wedding
gowns with only a couple of hours notice. Click here for names and phone
numbers.
Where can I get my Hair done and Makeup
applied?
To find a hairstylist to help you
prepare for the big event, check out the many hotels that have salons or
spas. You can also try a local non-Strip salon. Some hairstylists will even
make an in-room visit. Whichever way, make sure you book an appointment as
early as possible and remember that holidays are busy times. Click here for
names and phone numbers.
Can I have a Non-Traditional
Wedding?
Yes, Las Vegas has it all. You can
get married at the Las Vegas Hilton's Star Trek Experience, or tie the knot
on horseback. You can have Elvis officiate at your wedding, or marry at a
drive-thru chapel. You can even get married in your birthday suit - Anything
goes!
